Match Report : Peterborough Lions 24 – 55 SPRFC 1XV

Stockwood Park RFC  completed a comprehensive defeat of Peterborough Lions RFC by 55 points to 24 to take their final push for promotion to the last league match of the season next Saturday.

On a bone dry playing surface Park played some spectacular attacking rugby,  a great mixture of individual flair and  brilliantly organised team trys.  The architects of the  team attacks were Park’s midfield of Fly Half Sean Martyn and Centres, Man of the Match Nick Dundee and fellow centre Jordan Fadoju. They were supported by another fine performance from 18 year old Scrum Half Will Edmunds and Full Back Olly Daly who was a constant threat as well as scoring two trys himself.

In the forwards stand in Skipper and lock Forward Connor Underwood dominated the lineout while his fellow lock Jack Brooks put in his usual full shift.

Park took a 3-0 lead through a penalty from Nick Dundee which was followed by 4 trys in quick succession, 2 scored by fullback Olly Daly and the other 2 by Hooker Alfie Daly and Fly Half Sean Martyn.  Nick Dundee added the extras for 3 of the trys to give Park a 29-5 lead at the break.  Lions scored on the interval.

In the second half further trys were scored by left wing Dan Hooper, an outstanding individual try from Scrum Half Will Edmunds  a second try for Fly Half Sean  Martyn and a try at the end for Coach Tom Edmunds who came on as a substitute, joining his brother Will as a try scorer. Nick Dundee added the extras for 3 of the trys.

Peterborough Lions worked hard throughout and scored 3 trys of their own in the second half to secure themselves a losing bonus point at the end.

Next Saturday Park play Brackley RFC at home as they compete for promotion. Much will depend on the  Leighton Buzzard RFC result.   A large crowd is expected at Park’s London Road ground for the seasons final league match.  KO 3pm
