Matchday News for Saturday 18th April

Tomorrow, we play our penultimate league match of the season, away to Peterborough Lions, at Sostice Park, Bretton Woods. Peterborough Lions were relegated alongside Old Laurentians and us at the end of last season, and have experienced a disappointing season to date, having won just five matches; they were unable to raise a full side when they visited London Road earlier in the season, and the match was played as a friendly.  Despite this, we can expect a feisty encounter in front of a vociferous crowd. Off the pitch, we can expect a warm welcome, from a club that we have got to know well over the years.

Last weekend Lions lost 48-31 at  Northampton Casuals, whilst we beat Huntingdon 56-26. Stockwood Park are seven places and forty-eight points ahead of Lions, and still challenging for the second promotion spot from Counties 2 Midlands East (South). To achieve this, we are requiring Leighton Buzzard to slip up against either St Ives or St Neots, as they are four points ahead of us, with a much better points difference.

The clubs first met in September 2006, in Midlands 4 East (South), when Peterborough Lions won 15-14 at home. The clubs have met eleven times in all,  with Stockwood Park winning seven, and Lions 4. The last time that Stockwood Park visited Sostice Park was in February 2025, when Stockwood Park won 18-12. It is never an easy place to visit.

We look forward to seeing those of you who are travelling to Peterborough tomorrow.

Nick Powley
