Matchday News for Saturday 22nd November

On Saturday, we meet St Ives, who are currently third in our league, one place and four points above Stockwood Park. St Ives have won all six of their league matches, taking a try bonus in each. Our record is won five and lost one. On our last league outing, we won comprehensively away to Rushden, and we will be looking to build upon what was another outstanding performance. St Ives squeaked past Northampton Casuals, winning 31-30, having led 17-8 at half time. We can expect a close match on Saturday, with both clubs trying to maintain their push for promotion.

The clubs have met on nine previous occasions, with Stockwood Park leading the head-to-head by seven wins to two. That will, of course, count for nothing today, with most matches between the clubs having been fairly evenly matched. The first time that we met St Ives was in Midlands 3 East (South), in April 2014, when we won 48-12 at Somersham Road, St Ives. We had been due to meet in the previous November, but Stockwood Park was awarded a home walkover.

We are looking forward to a good crowd on Saturday, as it is also the occasion of our lunch for former players. The lunch is a sell-out, and we can all look forward to a convivial afternoon, hopefully rounded off by a convincing Stockwood Park win.
