Match Report : Oundle 64 – 12 SPRFC 1XV

Stockwood Park RFC headed north on Saturday to play unbeaten league leaders Oundle RFC in their rearranged league fixture.  Oundle’s pitch was once again waterlogged but the game was relocated to neighbours  Thorney RFC to enable the match to go ahead.

This was very much a game of two halves as Park turned round at halftime with the score at 12-12 and with their forward pack, particularly their front row of Props Mark Smith and Robert Day and Hooker Thulani Dhilwayo providing an excellent scrummage  platform.  From such a platform Park  followed  Oundle’s initial try with a pushover try scored  by their hard working No 8 Michael Powell. Neither try was converted and after the home team scored again to take a 12-5 lead Park ‘s continual pressure was rewarded with a fine team try scored by Fullback Olly Daly and converted from the touchline by Skipper Frank Daly who was playing Fly Half with the experienced  Alex Lovell taking over at scrum half.

With the score 12 -12 at halftime and with Park playing with commitment and energy, Park turned round with some optimism.

Unfortunately Oundle now stepped up their game and with more possession they ran the ball with skill and good support. Park’s defence came under pressure and gradually leaked scores to allow Level 4 Club Oundle to complete a comfortable win by 64-12.

Next week Park play Rushden & Higham RFC  at home.  KO 2.15pm.
