Stockwood Park RFC continued with their winning run on Saturday, this time at “the home of rugby” Rugby Lions RFC.
For the 5th game in succession Park scored over 40 points to achieve their victory but they did not have it all their own way as the Lions forwards made life difficult in the scrum and Park occasionally fell foul of the Referee’s interpretation of events.
For Park the architect of their victory was an outstanding performance from Fly Half Sean Martyn. Man of the Match Martyn scored 20 points himself with immaculate kicking off the tee, 6 conversions out of 7 attempts and he scored 2 outstanding trys, showing speed and skill to touch down. He was also prominent in defence as Park’s midfield defended with commitment.
Park led 28-10 at halftime with trys from Tight Head Prop Mark Smith, driving over for his touchdown. Speedy Left wing Kyran Ryan, Skipper and Scrum Half Frank Daly and Centre Alfie Daly. Sean Martyn converted all 4 trys. Lions kicked a Penalty and scored a try on halftime.
In the second half Park stretched away with Sean Martyn scoring his 2 trys and Flanker Sonny Monaghan, prominent throughout, scoring the final try. Martyn converted 2. Lions added one more converted try of their own to leave the score at 47-17 to Park.
Their next league fixture is on February 14th away at unbeaten League leaders Oundle RFC.
