In front of a large and enthusiastic home crowd, Stockwood Park RFC clearly appeared to think that for 50 minutes of their first league fixture of 2026 it must still be Christmas. Park started in second gear, handing out numerous presents to their opponents, Northampton Casuals RFC, in the form of intercepted passes, lost possession and some frail defence. A determined Casuals side were keen to take advantage and although not error free themselves, built up a 31 -14 lead by early in the second half.

However Park were not for surrendering and with tight head Prop and Man of the Match, Mark Smith, constantly creating good possession from his strong running , well supported by his fellow Prop, Nikas Kravecenko, Park gradually worked their way back into the game. Eventually securing victory when, following an excellent run down the left wing by Jerome Isles, the ball was recycled and right wing Will Standring crashed over in the corner with minutes to go for the match winning try completed by a magnificent conversion from the touch line by Centre Nick Dundee.
In the first half Park’s trys were scored by Skipper and Scrum Half Frank Daly, following a sharp break, and by lock forward Jack Brooks. Both trys were converted by Nick Dundee.

In the second half further trys came from Nikas Kravecenko, Lock Forward Connor Underwood, Fly Half Sean Martyn and finally by Will Standring. Nick Dundee added 3 more conversions and a long range penalty.
In a game of highs and lows and full on entertainment for the spectators it was Park who eventually deservedly took the points.
Next week Park are at home again, this time against St Neots RFC KO 2.15pm
