Stockwood Park RFC secured a hard earned but deserved victory on Saturday over Old Laurentians by 19-15. The well organised Laurentians, one place behind Park in the league, provided stiff opposition, but Park, despite not helping themselves by conceding a steady supply of penalties, defended with commitment and scored 3 excellent trys of their own.
In the forwards there were outstanding performances from man of the match, Tight Head prop Mark Smith, Hooker Thulani Dhilwayo and Lock Forward Connor Underwood who dominated the lineout. In the backs Park’s midfield of Fly Half Angus Buckman and Centres Nick Dundee and Jordan Fadoju were prominent throughout.
Park opened the scoring with a flourish when after 3 minutes Nick Dundee finished off an excellent spell of team rugby to touch down and then add the extras to give Park a 7-0 lead. The visitors came back with a penalty before Park Skipper and scrum Half Frank Daly touched down following a powerful drive to the line by the forwards.
Park led 12-3 at halftime before Angus Buckman scored a fine individual try under the posts for Nick Dundee to add the conversion. With a lead of 19-3 Park should have looked secure for the win but back came the visitors with 2 trys of their own leaving Park to defend a 19-15 lead to secure their victory to maintain their position of third in the league.
This weekend Park travel to Huntingdon RFC KO 2.15pm
