Stockwood Park RFC continued their encouraging start to their new league season with a comprehensive victory away at Peterborough Lions RFC by 61 points to 7.
Park took control of the game with their first try after 5 minutes, scored by their reliable tighthead Prop Rob Day, and from there they moved steadily clear of Lions to score 9 tries’, all bar one converted by Park’s consistent kicker, Centre Nick Dundee. Park led 42-0 at halftime and although Lions came more into the game in the second half, competing well in the scrums, Park were always in command, moving further ahead to secure a well-deserved victory.
Park’s first try scored by Rob Day was followed by further tries at regular intervals in the first half scored by Flanker Reece Sweeney, Left Wing Joe Ladley, Loose head Prop Thulani Dhliwayo Fly Half Angus Buckman, and Flanker Dan Loft. Nick Dundee converted all these tries to give Park their 42-0 lead at halftime. Park’s ball handling had been excellent and their Skipper Connor Underwood dominated the lineout.
In the second half a further 2 tries’ from Thulani Dhliwayo and one from right wing Jerome Isles with Nick Dundee adding the extras for 2 gave Park a final winning score of 61-7. Hardworking Lions having added a try of their own.
This was an excellent team performance with a standout display from hattrick try scoring Thulani Dhliwayo. Dhliwayo ran powerfully and was a constant menace to the home team. At halftime Park had brought on experienced Scrum Half Alex Lovell and also gave an encouraging 1st XV debut to Flanker Charlie Doody. Another promising young player from Park’s youth system.
