Stockwood Park Rugby Football Club’s Under 16s and Colts were treated to a day they’ll never forget on Sunday April 14th, when they travelled to the iconic Allianz Stadium for a rare behind-the-scenes tour and coaching session with England Men’s Head Coach, Steve Borthwick.
The afternoon began with a guided stadium tour, followed by an elite training session on the pitch with Borthwick himself — an inspiring and unforgettable opportunity for the young players, many of whom hope to one day follow in the footsteps of the international stars who call Allianz Stadium home.
But the day was about more than just high-level coaching. The event also showcased Stockwood Park RFC’s deep commitment to its community. In the lead-up to the trip, the Under 16s and Colts raised £285 for the club’s Social Fund, an initiative developed over the last 24 months to make rugby more accessible to children who may otherwise go without.
So far this season alone, the Social Fund has provided direct support for over 20 children, helping with kit, travel, and membership costs. The new contribution will fund a further three places for the 2025/26 season — another important step in Stockwood’s mission to ensure no child is left on the sidelines.
The trip was made possible thanks to support from Allianz UK, with coordination led by Alistair Body, Business Development Director at Momentum Broker Solutions, who helped bring the opportunity to life.
“This was an exceptional day for the players, and we’re incredibly grateful to Allianz UK for their backing,” said Body. “It’s fantastic to see a global brand continuing to champion grassroots rugby. Stockwood Park RFC is a brilliant example of a club that makes a real difference in its community, and I’m proud to have played a part in making this experience happen.”
The event builds on the £3,000 grant Stockwood received from Allianz in November 2023, which has further strengthened the club’s ability to support its members and grow the game locally.
Club Chairman Steve Daly added:
“We’re enormously proud of what we’re building at Stockwood. Days like this don’t just happen — they reflect years of investment in our players and our community. With more than 250 children now playing mini and youth rugby with us, we’re seeing a real resurgence in local interest and participation. The future is incredibly bright for Luton’s premier rugby club.”
