On an excellent playing surface, in perfect weather conditions for rugby and in front of an enthusiastic and vocal crowd of over 110 former players, Park continued their steady improvement this season with their third league win out of four and their best performance so far with a 34-14 win against Northampton BBOB.
Star of the show was debutant centre, Brandon Lewsey, who scored two tries and was prominent throughout in attack and defence. Also making his first team debut was 18 year old Lock Forward, Conor Underwood, a product of Park’s youth system and he too can be well pleased with his start for the 1st XV.
Park opened the scoring 7-0 after 12 minutes when forward pressure was converted into a try by their alert scrum half, Alex Lovell. Fly Half, Matt Jones who kicked very accurately from the ground all afternoon, added the extras. Jones then kicked a penalty to increase the Park lead to 10-0 before the visitors skipped through some weak Park defence to make the score 10-7. Park responded almost instantly when Lewsey was driven over for the first of his two tries. Jones again added the extras to give Park a 17-7 lead at halftime.
In the second half Park added further tries from their busy fullback Charlie Bennett and Brandon Lewsey for his second. Matt Jones converted both tries and added a further penalty to give him a personal match haul of 14 points. BBOB then added a converted try to their score but Park were now well gone and completed a comfortable victory.
Next Saturday Park are away at Northampton Casuals RFC.
