Stockwood Park reached the semi-final of the Midlands RFU Senior Vase with what was eventually a comprehensive victory by 36-13 over visitors Handsworth. Park welcomed back from injury , Man of the Match Michael Powell who had a fine game, they scored 6 excellent tries and although the visitors remained in contention for much of the game, it was Park’s pace and superior handling in the backs that saw them draw comfortably clear by the end.
Park started well when left wing Kyran Ryan sped over in the corner with only three minutes on the clock and this try was soon followed by a further score from number 8 Will Bennett with Brandon Lewsey adding the extras. Handsworth responded with their own try before Fly Half Lewsey drove over for a try close to halftime to extend Park’s lead to 17-5 at the break.
In the second half Park extended their lead to 22-8 with a second try for Will Bennett but a certain loss of concentration allowed the visitors to score again and apply some pressure to Park at 22-13. Park however finished the game in style with two excellent team tries. Kyran Ryan scored his second and after some excellent inter passing Full Back Rob Jack completed the scoring. Centre Sean Martyn added the extras to both tries to give Park a conclusive victory at 36-13.
This week Park return to League action with a visit to Northampton BBOB.
Park’s 2nd XV defeated neighbours Luton RFC 24-15 to complete a successful weekend for the Club.
