Stockwood Park bounced back to winning form with a comprehensive bonus point 27 points to 5 victory over Daventry. Although Park’s forwards were strengthened by the return from injury of their loose head prop Justin Harkin, it was in the backs where Park’s slick handling and excellent support running gave them the edge over their tenacious opponents. Park’s defence was also rock solid with their back row of Sonny Monaghan, Jack Brooks and Will Bennett prominent.
Playing into the wind Park got off to a great start, racing into a 10-0 lead with two well taken tries from their speedy left wing Kyran Ryan, the first following an excellent team build up to the score. Daventry then came back into the game with their own try before Park’s full back Rob Jack scored an outstanding individual try, breaking clear from the halfway line and showing great pace to score close to the posts. Fly Half Brandon Lewsey added the extras before scoring a try himself to give Park a 20 points to 5 halftime lead.
Although the second half became a closer contest Park still created chances with No 8 Will Bennett eventually driving over for a try, converted by Lewsey to give Park a deserved 27 – 7 victory and to maintain their position as potential promotion challengers in the league.
This Saturday Park travel to local rivals Dunstablians RFC for the semi-final of the RFU Senior Vase (Midlands) Competition. A large crowd is expected for this local derby.
Meanwhile Park’s 2nd XV continued with their successful season with a victory at Brackley.
