Although Stockwood Park collected another valuable bonus point and competed strongly in the scrums and line out, they still failed to kick start this season’s league campaign with their first victory.
With the scores level at 11 -11 just before halftime, Park allowed their defences to be breached just before the break and twice early in the second half, also losing scrum half Alex Lovell to a yellow card in that period, to leave themselves a difficult challenge. The fact that they pulled two scores back was to their credit but by now the visitors were out of reach.
Tabard went 6-0 ahead with two penalties before Fullback Matt Jones pulled one back. Park then went into the lead with a well taken try, wide out, by lock Phil Doherty following excellent pressure from the forwards led by No 8 Ben Griffin. Tabard then scored a try to go 11 – 8 ahead before Jones levelled the scores with a further penalty. As halftime approached Tabard’s strong running created a try, well converted, to give them a lead of 18-11 at the break.
Further tries early in the second half took the visitors to 28-11 ahead, before former skipper, Steve Pollock, standing in for Lovell at scrum half scored following good pressure from Park’s forwards. Park attacked again and following strong running from their young outside centre, Kieron Ryan and scrum half Alex Lovell and some good team handling, Fly Half, James Hankey scored and converted to secure Park’s bonus point and leave the score 23 – 28.
Park travel to Hammersmith and Fulham RFC next Saturday and hope for the return to action of their skipper Jamie Hoque.
