1XV vs Harrow 31 – 45

An error strewn fifty minutes saw Stockwood Park fall to their third defeat of the season at home to Harrow on Saturday (24 September).

Park called upon hooker Sonny Monahan for his first run out with the 1st XV this season, as Park lost Captain Jamie Hoque due to injury, with Tom Childs reverting to flanker.

The hosts fell behind early into the game after a sloppy exit kick found an open Harrow player who managed to get over the whitewash from short distance.

A further four tries came from the visitors, who took advantage of handling errors and poor decision making from the home side to bag a bonus point before half time.

Park were not helped by ill discipline which also marred their 45-15 loss to Harpenden the previous week, with centre Matt Jones receiving a yellow card shortly before half time.

Stockwood did manage to get over the line with winger Kyran Ryan scoring the first of his three tries after a pin point cross field kick from stalwart stand-off James Hankey.

The second half started similar to the first, with Harrow capitalising on Park errors to run in another five pointer.

The early score seemed to wake up the home side, who finally got into their rhythm playing the brand of rugby which saw them gain promotion last season, and it proved promising with wrecking ball number 8 Ben Griffin scrambling across the line twice in quick succession.

A further Harrow score seemed to lift the home side

Park continued to pile on the pressure, and managed the collect a losing try bonus point with speed stick winger Ryan crossing for his second. The utility back returned to the club following a season long sabbatical in 2015/16, and showed a clean pair of heels to grab his third and Parks final try of the game five minutes from time, providing the London Rd crowd with something to cheer about.

The final whistle brought the curtain down on another hit and miss 80 minutes for the home side, who know they need to maintain their high standards in both halves if they hope to grab their first win of the season.

Captain Hoque said after the game: “We once again shout ourselves in the foot with our discipline. We worked really hard in training and all the lads knew what we had to do to get the result but we let it slip.

We face another tough test next weekend, but I know that all the lads will want to get that first W on the board.”
