Stockwood Park produced their best team performance of the season so far with a deserved victory over a committed opposition. Park secured victory because their defence was much improved, particularly in the midfield where veteran Man of the Match James Hankey and Centres Jason Mitchell and Brandon Lewsey were very secure. In addition, Lock Phil Doherty was outstanding in the lineout and Park took their scoring chances with three good team tries.
Led for the first time by Hooker Tom Childs, Park were soon following their acting Skipper’s example with commitment and hard work. Both sides contributed to an entertaining first half and it was nearly halftime before Park broke the deadlock. A good passage of play with No8 Aaron Beattie and Prop Justin Harkin prominent, saw scrum half Alex Lovell score a try with a sharp blindside break.
The second half saw Park once more on the attack and a sweeping movement through the backs saw right wing Alex Harnett score a fine try which was converted from wide out by Centre Brandon Lewsey to give Park a 12-0 lead. Almost immediately the visitors bounced back with a try of their own before Brandon Lewsey continued his excellent try scoring form, completing another fine team try as he crashed over near the posts for replacement Matt Jones to add the extras. Lewsey is proving a valuable addition to Park’s backline.
The last ten minutes saw the visitors, who never gave up, camped on Park’s line as they worked for a score. Park finally conceded a penalty try at the end which still gave them a conclusive victory by 19-12
Park’s next League Fixture is on January 27th away at Northampton BBOB.
Park’s 2nd xv continued their successful season with a convincing 71-0 victory over Hitchin 2nd xv. Park’s wingers Tom Anderson (5) and Kieron Ryan (2) scored 7 tries between them.
