It is with great sadness that we have received news from Paul and Heather Cakebread that their son, Steven (Stevie), has passed away after a short illness during his on-going rehabilitation and care following a serious car accident in 2014.
Stevie joined Stockwood Park’s under 12’s youth side as a prop and continued as a loyal club member and player until his accident at the age of 17. Stevie participated in all the tours from Holt in Norfolk through to sunny Spain forming great player bonds on and off the pitch and was becoming a much improved and recognised player.
After his accident, the community spirit of Stockwood Park Rugby Club came out and we hosted fundraising events to raise money for the East of England Air Ambulance Service as a thank you for their vital service and for home adaptations to allow Paul and Heather to bring Steven home from his 24/7 residential care home. Heather & Paul would like to thank everybody again for their support over the past few years and would love to see you all at the “Celebration of Steven’s Life”.
Stevie’s service is being held in the small chapel at the Luton Crematorium on Friday 23rd March at 4pm and afterwards at the club. All are welcome and Paul and Heather have a request for you to wear a splash of colour on the day. They would rather no flowers but if you would like to make a donation to the Sawbridgeworth Neuro Centre who have looked after Stevie for the past 3 years please use the following link www.memorygiving.com/stevencakebread
From everyone at Stockwood Park Rugby Club, we send our deepest sympathies to Heather, Paul and the family and friends of Steven.
