This was a result for Stockwood Park of “what might have been “. Despite having 75 – 80 % possession and territory, particularly in the first half, Park’s composure often deserted them as they camped on the home team’s try line but failed to secure the score. Rushden’s defence was also solid and when they did have a scoring opportunity they took it to match Park at 3 tries each and secure the draw.
Park were on the attack for the first half hour but conceded the first score to the home team before levelling almost immediately when Flanker Jack Brooks was driven over just before halftime.
In the second half Rushden took the lead 10-5 before Jason Mitchell, playing on the wing, went over in the corner for a well constructed team try. Almost immediately Rushden went ahead again with a converted try before sustained Park pressure saw scrum half Frank Daly, who was busy throughout, sell a sharp dummy and score under the posts. Replacement Matt Jones added the extras.
The draw and bonus point moved Park into fourth position in the league in a congested mid table. This Saturday Park play Bedford Queens at home in their rearranged league fixture. There will be an early ko at 1pm .
Park’s 2nd xv maintained their impressive form with a comfortable victory over Rushden & Higham 2nd xv. Former 1st xv Skipper, Michael Powell, had an encouraging return from a long term injury. Powell scored two tries and was fully involved in an excellent team performance.
