With three minutes to go Park had secured what appeared to be a match winning score when their fly Half James Hankey burst over from short range to score his second try and Matt Jones added the extras to give Park a 19-15 lead over BBOB in what had been a tense game dominated in parts by the Referee’s whistle. Unfortunately Park were unable to close the game out and could not stop the competitive home team from forcing their way back up the field and scoring a last minute try to secure their victory.
Within a minute of the start Park were 5-0 in the lead when Centre Brandon Lewsey, maintaining his record of having scored in every 1st xv game which he has played in bar one, latched onto a stray pass and scored a try under the posts. Unfortunately the conversion was missed. The home team then took the lead with a converted try and then added a penalty to lead by 10-5. Park were under some pressure in the scrum but maintained an excellent supply of lineout ball from Phil Doherty and Will Varnals. Just before halftime Park took the lead again when fly half James Hankey sold a neat dummy and went over for a try following a strong run from left wing Kieron Ryan, well supported by full back Charlie Bennett. The try was converted by Brandon Lewsey to give Park a 12-10 lead at halftime.
BBOB scored again early in the second half to give themselves a 15-12 lead before the dramatic last three minutes saw the lead change twice but not ending in Park’s favour.
Next Saturday Park are at home to Northampton Casuals. KO 2.15pm
Park’s 2nd xv maintained their winning run with a confident 36-0 victory over BBOB 2nd xv. Winger Aron Colbert scored four tries.
