On Saturday we welcome Rushden & Higham to London Road for the 1st Round of the inaugural Counties 2 Championship. Let’s all hope that this new RFU competition, proves to be more popular than the ill-fated Papa John Cup which went before. This is Rushden’s first visit to Stockwood Park since November 2021, when the home side won 31-15. Rushden, however, gained revenge later in the season, winning 17-13 at home. In all, the clubs have met 21 times – Stockwood Park have won 12 times, Rushden 7, and there have been 2 draws. The first match was in September 2002, when Rushden won 31-18 at home in Midlands 4 East (South).
Stockwood Park come into the match on the back of two wins; whilst not anything to get too excited about, it is the first time that we have won two matches at the start of a season, since 2019. Rushden have shown similar form with wins away at Huntingdon (28-44) and home to Peterborough Lions (26-10).
Those of you unable to make it to the club on Saturday for the 2:30pm kickoff, will be able to catch the game on You Tube, by all accounts. Those of you heading to London Road, please note the earlier kick-off time of 2:30pm
The club YouTube channel broadcasting the game is found here: https://www.youtube.com/@stockwoodparkrfc
