Match Report: SPRFC 1XV 32 – 13 St Neots RFC

On the occasion of the 100th league appearance of loose head Prop Rob Day,  Stockwood Park RFC achieved another important bonus point victory away from home, this time  against St Neots RFC  by 32 – 13.

With their main pitch unplayable following the dry weather, St Neots transferred the game to a smaller pitch alongside. The narrow pitch hindered both sides,  giving their wingers little room to exploit the width and as a result much of the attacking from both sides went down the middle.  For Park, their midfield trio of Fly Half Sean Martyn and Centres Nick Dundee and Will Standring were in good form. All three scored a try apiece, with straight running and strong defence. In the forwards, the return of lock forward Connor Underwood added quality to Park’s lineout.

After halftime Park’s discipline let them down for a while as they spent a short period of the game with 13 men on the pitch. St Neots also were reduced to 14. However Park weathered the storm and finished as deserving winners.

St Neots went 3-0  up after a few minutes before Park’s Nick Dundee replied with two well struck  Penaltys to put Park ahead by 6-3.  A try by centre Will Standring completing some skilful team play, converted by Nick Dundee, gave Park a 13-6 halftime lead.

Early in the second half Park’s lively Fly Half Sean Martyn touched down near to the posts with Dundee adding the extras. St Neots added their own converted try before  Nick Dundee added a further converted try with a strong burst for the line.  Skipper Frank Daly then completed the scoring with the crucial bonus point try to give Park a valuable win by 32 points to 13. Centre Nick Dundee scoring  17 of them.

Next Saturday Park are at home to Oundle.  KO 3pm

Park’s 2nd XV continued their unbeaten run with an excellent  21-12 victory over Bletchley 2nd XV.   Park 2nd XV now lead their merit table.
