Match Report : SPRFC 1 XV 73 – 7 Rushden & Higham

Stockwood Park RFC eased through the first round of the Counties 2 Midlands Cup, the latest RFU Cup Competition, with a comprehensive victory over Rushden & Higham RFC by 73 points to 7.

Neither side were playing at full strength but Park were unplayable, particularly in the first half when they led 52 -0 at halftime.  Although they became a little disjointed in the second half as their Coach, Tom Edmonds,  emptied the bench to have everybody involved, they still added a further 3 converted trys to run out comfortable winners by 73-7

For Park Flanker Dan Loft scored his first try for the 1st XV and then followed it with two more to give himself a hatrick.   Further trys in the first half were scored by Flanker Reece Sweeney.  Lock Connor Underwood.   Loose Head Prop Matt Neumann.  Veteran  No 8 Aaron Beattie.   Fly Half Sean Martyn and  Alfie Daly,  in the Centre this week.

In the second half further trys were added by Dan Loft for his third. Winger Jerome Isles, always a threat and by Captain and Scrum Half Frank Daly.  Fly Half Sean Martyn converted 9 of the 11 trys with some excellent goal kicking  and with his try scored a total of 23 points himself.  Full Back Oliver Daly was nominated  Man of the Match and although he did not get on the score sheet he was involved in much of the build up.

The visitors Rushden & Higham scored a converted try of their own at the end and worked hard throughout the game.

Park’s next fixture will be in the league away at Northampton Casuals RFC on Saturday October 4th  KO 3pm.  This Saturday Park’s 2nd XV entertain  Dunstablians  RFC at home KO 3pm
