When Stockwood Park conceded their third try just before halftime to make the score 17-0 to their hosts, Old Laurentians, a comeback did not look likely as Park had stuttered through the first half, falling foul of the Referee’s whistle and maintaining too high an error count.
However this current Stockwood Park side are made of sterner stuff and as happened last week against Leighton Buzzard, Park stormed back into the game after the break. Led from the front by their all action halfbacks, Skipper Frank Daly and the excellent Sean Martyn and supported in the midfield by man of the match Nick Dundee who constantly created room with his powerful running and maintained a 100% kicking record off the tee with 3 conversions and a penalty, Park chipped away at the score, taking the lead with 10 minutes to go and eventually running out as worthy winners.
In the Forwards Park’s front row of Props Rob Day and Nikas Kravchenko and Hooker Thulani Dhilwayo provided a solid platform with lock Jack Brooks and Flanker Alfie Daly always prominent.
Park’s first try was scored by Nikas Kravchenko and was followed shortly after by a try from Fly Half Sean Martyn who was always in the thick of the action. Hooker Thulani Dhilwayo scored the try which gave Park the lead after the extras had been added to all 3 trys by Nick Dundee, who then kicked a penalty to complete the scores. All Park’s trys came from excellent support play and teamwork. Park were pleased to see Sean McIntyre come off the bench during the second half following nearly two years out with injury.
Park’s next game is the semi final of the Bedfordshire Cup, playing for The Les Carr Trophy, against Biggleswade RFC away on Thursday April 2nd KO 7.30pm at Biggleswade. The next League game will be at home on Saturday April 11th v Huntingdon RFC KO 3pm.
