With no League matches last Saturday, Stockwood Park RFC travelled to Datchworth RFC for the 2nd Round of the Counties 2 Midlands Cup.
With a much changed side Park gave 1st XV debuts to two of their promising Colts, Will Edmunds at Scrum Half and Saints Academy player Matteui Degui in the Centre. Both players are products of the Park Youth system and both acquitted themselves well on their debuts with Matteui Degui getting himself onto the score sheet with a fine try.
This was a Cup Match where both sides showed plenty of attacking skill and energy but where both defences were suspect at times. In the end Park who had forced their way back into the game in the second half conceded two late trys to give the home team a deserved victory.
On an excellent playing surface, Park went into an immediate lead with a length of the pitch try finished off by No 8 Aarun Beattie. Datchworth then forced themselves back into the game taking the lead with two trys 14-5. Kyran Ryan, playing at Fullback this week for Park, struck back with a fine try, converted by Skipper Frank Daly. Datchworth then extended their lead to 33- 12 before Park came back into the game with three trys scored by Lock Luke Nottman. Fly Half Frank Daly and Centre Matteui Degui. Daly converting two.
The score now stood at 33-31 to the home team before they stretched away with two more late trys to complete their victory at 45-31
Park’s next fixture will be their league match with Rushden & Higham RFC on Saturday November 8th. KO 2.15pm
