Stockwood Park RFC left behind their excellent league form of recent weeks as they were eventually defeated 25-21 by an energetic Biggleswade RFC in an error ridden cup match under floodlights at Biggleswade. Park were disrupted by several team and positional changes and were kept under constant pressure by the home team. Even so Park had worked themselves into a position to win the game at the end but failed to take their chances to secure victory.
Biggleswade went ahead 7-0 before Fly Half Sean Martyn kicked a penalty to make it 7-3. The home team extended their lead to 14-3 before lock forward Jack Brooks scored the first of his two trys on the night with Sean Martyn adding the extras. Jack Brooks second try took Park ahead at 14-15 before Biggleswade kicked a penalty on halftime to retake the lead at 17-15.
After the break Biggleswade scored again to lead 22-15 before Sean Martyn kicked two penaltys to bring the score back to 22-21. This led to a lively finish and although Biggleswade kicked a further penalty Park finished on the attack but without securing the vital score.
Park now return to League action next Saturday at home to Huntingdon RFC KO 3pm. With three league games to go, Park are still in contention for a promotion spot. Victory in all 3 of their remaining games will be crucial.
