Stockwood Park secured a hard earned but important league victory by 15 – 5 over neighbours Dunstablians on a wet pitch and windy afternoon where the post-Christmas error count by both sides was high but where Park finished the stronger to take the points.
Park once again started slowly and were soon 5 – 0 down when indecision under a well placed high kick allowed the home team winger to take the bounce and sprint unopposed to the line. This spurred Park into action and with loose head Prop Justin Harkin, who had an excellent game, prominent and well supported by the back row of Tom Edmonds, Jack Brooks and Aron Beattie, Park worked their way back into the game. Just before halftime, following some continuous pressure, Centre Brandon Lewsey, who has been a valuable addition to Park’s backline, crashed over to score an unconverted try and make the scores level at halftime.
Playing into the wind in the second half Park worked hard to secure the next score. With Dunstablians beginning to tire, Park’s positional pressure told and Jack Brooks, now back playing again in the back row went over to score the crucial try following some excellent teamwork leading to the try. Replacement Fly Half Matt Jones added the extras and then finished the game in ark’s favour with a penalty to make the final score 15-5.
To cap an excellent afternoon for Stockwood Park, the 2nd xv, led by ex-Colt Alex Linney, defeated Dunstablians 2nd xv by 38-0
