U9 vs Brackley

As always thank you to all the players for turning out today and also thank you to you the parents and spectators for your continued support. It makes the games really enjoyable to hear such fantastic support and I know it certainly does spur the players on when they hear everyone.

Today’s game was against Brackley. They looked a well organised and professional team & I even admit to thinking ‘oh dear we may be in trouble today’ when I saw them arriving. How wrong was I! They were a strong outfit with some great players who tackled and defended incredibly well throughout the two games, but Stockwood under 9’s were not and did not let this phase them in the slightest.

Stockwood and Brackley had 12 players each so we played the main seven a side on pitch one and on pitch two we held a mini game with the subs in order to keep all players playing and warmed up. This enabled us to give all the kids a chance to play at all times but also be part of the game on pitch one and contribute to this successful performance.

The team came together and worked as a unit – they attacked and defended really well. The defending at times I thought was exceptional, especially when the opposition were pressing us literally 5 meters away from the try line at times and did not give up in the slightest. Stockwood continued to defend and keep a solid line and on many occasions gained possession by turnovers. This was great to see and shows how far this great bunch of kids have come in the last two months since they started contact.

I thought the ball handling, passing and decision making was very good and much improved from previous weeks. This was clear to see by all and it really helped in the way they all played.

In terms of attacking performance, as normal no issues there, we know each player can attack well and can score trys. What I would like to see though is more players getting on the score sheet and showing that what they can do in training, they can replicate out on the field in a match environment.

Game 1:
Stockwood 6 – 5 Brackley

Game 2:
Stockwood 9 – 3 Brackley

Man of The Match Award – Will
Today this was awarded to Will. Will fully deserved this. Not only has he played well today but also over all the other games he’s been involved in this season.

He continues to perform at a very high standard each week over all aspects of his game. His legs never stop working and at times even I get knackered watching him!
He has grown in character and as player and the strength, determination and commitment in both attacking play and defending is incredible. So well done Will and keep this up.

Most Improved Player Award – Jasmine
This was awarded to Jas. Today I felt that she showed great determination and commitment in both games. She was determined throughout and I thought on a couple of occasions she was on her way to getting onto the score sheet. She continues to show great character and strength and is a great team player who is improving each week and gaining more and more confidence. Great work, well done Jas, keep it up.

Great first 2 months of the season for the Under 9’s, well done.

U9 vs Chesham

Thank you to all who came along and participated at Sunday’s match – what a great morning of rugby.

We played away at Chesham RFC. They were a good, well organised side and presented themselves in a very professional way. Stockwood U9’s performed exceptionally well and played some very good rugby. As normal the attacking play was superb with a vast array of try’s scored. I saw a real improvement in the defensive work over both games and I was incredibly pleased to see the great pressure you placed on the opposition both in their half but also when defending our own try line. This resulted in many turnover opportunities which you all executed brilliantly and on some occasions scored off the back of this.

I think the fact that their coach kept asking for us to tie our shoelaces together as we were too good says it all. It was also nice to hear good feedback from the opposition at the end of the game.

Game 1 Stockwood won 9-3 and game 2 Stockwood won 6-4 – great effort.

I have to add another point about the how you all work as a team. I was so pleased to see individuals make sure others were ok during and after each game, congratulating each other and also comforting team mates when required. Thank you, fantastic team effort, really well done!

Man Of The Match Award – Adrian
A well deserved award for this little champion. He played superbly all morning. Adrian’s confidence was sky high today, his attacking play was great and he really utilised his speed in order to score some lovely try’s. I also have to mention his defensive work, executed some great tackles and stuck in when required.

Most Improved Player – Daniel
Great play from Daniel today His presence on the pitch continues to be strong and he really takes the lead in organising his teammates during games. Again, confidence is improving each week and is really looking sharp within his attacking play.

WELL DONE BOYS!

U9 – Tri

What can I say…………Totally speechless by the games today, absolutely amazing performance by all players.

We played 3 games in total – Biggleswade, Dunstable A and Dunstable B.

Biggleswade were a well organised side, strong and had some very talented and quick players. They gave a strong game in the first half but our players managed to play a great game, stay strong and secure a very strong win.

Dunstable A were a little different. They were a very strong, determined bunch of kids who seemed quite aggressive at times to which we suffered a fair amount of injuries throughout the games. But let me tell you, it didn’t phase us one little bit, it only made the players focus and fight back even stronger and challenge for every single ball going. At one point I thought we had lost the game but no, Stockwood fought back tremendously and challenged everything Dunstable threw at them and matched them both physically and mentally. The defensive play was incredible and all worked really well as a unit in order to keep Dunstable away from the tryline. Some great interception play and brilliant turnovers from increased pressure on the opposition. They secured a very well deserved draw.

Dunstable B were a weaker side to their A team, however they still showed great power and presence and challenged hard at times. However, Stockwood again showed how impressive and professional they were and played an excellent game, threw themselves into everything and showed some great scoring and defensive work.

Over all 3 games, Stockwood kept a good strong unit throughout, they attacked when required, defended like I’ve never seen before, continued to drive the ball forward and never gave up and showed fantastic determination. Considering this is the second game of contact that they have ever played, I’m so impressed.

One thing I do find great about the kids so early on, yes they may hurt themselves, but after a few minutes out of the game, they are dying to get back involved. This is so positive for this team and long may it continue.

The scores:
Game 1 = 10 – 4 to Stockwood
Game 2 = 4 – 4 Draw
Game 3 = 10 – 1 to Stockwood

Man of the Match – Joe Basquille. Played an immense game, showed what a great team player he is, an all rouder in terms every aspect of the game, great strength, passing, defense, scoring, positioning and awareness.
Most Improved Player – Oliver Hutchinson. Oliver showed a fantastic improvement today, his grit and determination was exceptional. At no point did he give up, he continued to defend strongly but also showed great attacking skills and never gave up.
Well done Lads!!

U10 vs Daventry RFC U10

The first game of the season and Stockwood Park were able to field a full team for a long time, which is a wonderful start to the season. With a considerable number of new players, it would always be a difficult game and it is fair to say that on the day Daventry were the stronger team.
However there were positives to take from the game, everyone got themselves involved including the new players, as the game went on there were some strong forward runs the support when attacking continued to improve culminating in a couple of tries.
We then mixed the teams giving all of the children the opportunity to get to know players from Daventry better and to show that the object is to have fun no matter who is on your team.
There are areas that the team can improve on but it was a good starting point to work from. I look forward to seeing everyone at Biggleswade RFC next Sunday
