The writing was on the wall for Stockwood Park when they conceded a converted try in the first minute of the game at Bedford Queens and although they fought back well to lead 14 -13 at halftime, the bigger and more physical home team eventually wore down some stern Park defence to clinch a 25-14 victory with Park failing to add to their score in the second half.
Park had a late change to their selected team when Hooker Tom Childs had to withdraw on the morning of the match to be replaced by prop forward Jake Lawson. Second team Captain Alex Linney also came into the side at Flanker and both players worked hard in the forwards.
With Queens 7-0 ahead Park were soon on the attack and some good team play saw Centre Brandon Lewsey score close to the posts following support from scrum half Alex Lovell. Lewsey converted the try before the home side bounced back with a Penalty and well struck drop goal to give them a 13-7 lead. A well taken try by Fly half James Hankey on the stroke of half time, converted by Lewsey gave Park a lead of 14-13 at the break.
In the second half Park had their chances but it was Queens who scored two more tries, one converted to seal their victory.
Park’s next league fixture is on November 25th, at home to Rushden and Higham RFC. In the mean time they will be playing Bedford Athletic RFC, on Thursday November 16th, in the quarter final of the Bedfordshire Cup, under floodlights at Park’s London Road ground. KO 7.30pm “
