1xv victory in dying minutes of game

Video footage & Match Report from 1xv vs Dunstable.   In excellent weather conditions and in front of a large and partisan crowd, Stockwood Park recorded their first win of their new league campaign defeating local rivals Dunstablians in a tense and exciting game, the result of which could have gone either way.

Park were slow out of the blocks and were 10 – 0 down after 8 minutes as first of all indecision under a high ball allowed Dunstablians to take advantage with a well taken converted try and then follow this up with a penalty.  Park began to work their way back into the game with Tom Edmonds and Phil Doherty providing a good supply of lineout ball and after 25 minutes the forwards drove loose head prop Justin Harkin over for a try converted from wide out by centre Matt Jones to make the score 10-7 at halftime.

In the second half the game ebbed and flowed, both sides making unforced handling errors before some poor defence from Park allowed the visitors to increase their lead to 17- 7 with another converted try.  With 20 minutes to go Park now played their best rugby. First, they narrowed the gap to 14-17 with a try by lock Luke Chapman, converted by Matt Jones and with 3 minutes to go, following a sharp break from scrum half Alex Lovell, Justin Harkin was on hand again to take the scoring pass and give Park the lead. Matt Jones converted and although Park finished under pressure they hung on for a well-deserved victory.

The 2nd XV, led by their young skipper Alex Linney completed the double over Dunstablians on the day with a comprehensive 66-0 victory and remain undefeated this season with three wins out of three.

Next week Park travel to Leicester Forest for their next league fixture.
